So you wanna know more about me?
If you're reading this section, congratulations! You just may learn a few new things about the author of this blog.
After graduating with an English Literature and Creative Writing degree, I started to think about how I wanted the next few years to look. I could say the rest of my life, but as a twenty-something, that is far too stressful to ruminate on.
Travelling was something that felt too out of reach for some reason. It's too far away. It's too unsafe. It's too expensive. These were consistent thoughts of mine whenever I broached the topic.
Then last summer my sister said, 'hey, my friend and I are going to Australia', and suddenly I had a non-negotiable opportunity to go backpacking. I made peace with the fact that it would cost nearly every penny I'd saved over the past three years at my part-time job, then almost as quickly as the idea was conjured, flights were booked, hostels were secured and the three of us got ready to fly across the world.
As is to be expected from the land down under - it was the most amazing trip I've ever experienced.
Skydives over the sea, snorkeling with turtles and white-sand beaches became a new normal (I'm still not sure how), and it was maybe one of the first times that I'd never questioned if I was doing the right thing.
Don't get me wrong, with these experiences also came sleeping in rooms of ten, fourteen-hour overnight buses and bugs that would bite until you bled, but somehow those were actually my favourite parts.
It was so out of my comfort zone that I could actually feel myself changing for the better.
I'm sure you may be sick of people talking about Australia on social media, so I'll end this section here, but I thought I could close it out by directing you to the above photo. There I am at the State Library Victoria in Melbourne. This beautiful public library was actually visited on my last ever full day in Australia back in January. It came at a very fitting time as it brought me back to what I loved and prompted me to think about my next steps.
So what are these next steps? Well, I started this blog as a way to show my absolute die-hard love for books, reading, writing, publishing and just generally getting thoughts from my brain to a physical form. So far it appears my posts will consist mainly of book reviews as I love to talk about my favourite books and discuss them with others, so if you have any thoughts or think there are any books I should read, feel free to drop a comment. Alongside this blog, I also have a job, but do a few voluntary writing/editing bits and pieces, courses, webinars etc. in the hopes that one day I will land a job in publishing.
